Her career has grown out of devoted effort driven through tangible results and evidenced in successfully managing diverse projects. She began her career in journalism as an intern at The Standard Group Plc, one of the major media organizations in Kenya, before being recruited as a correspondent, writing human interest features for the weekly newspapers. As a reporter and later senior writer, Lillian wrote stories on governance, science and environment, health and education, traveling extensively across the country to tell impactful human interest stories.
Lillian has held senior management roles as County News Editor overseeing six regional bureaus in daily news gathering, and concurrently deputizing the National News Editor to run the news desk. In March 2021, she was appointed Continuity Editor in The Standard’s Converged Newsroom – the first of its kind in East and Central Africa. Under this role, she was responsible for ensuring the newsroom operated optimally at all times through daily planning, development and monitoring of content across print, broadcast and online platforms. Over the years, she has worked closely with teams of reporters to develop award-winning stories that have earned recognition both locally and abroad. Her biggest pride and joy has been in coaching and mentoring the next generation of journalists in the newsroom.
