Lillian Aluanga-Delvaux

Lillian joined Global Press Journal in 2023 as the regional editor for the Africa bureaus. Lillian is a seasoned journalist with a vibrant career spanning over 15 years in editorial work, reporting and media management. Her career has grown out of devoted effort driven through tangible results and evidenced in successfully managing diverse projects. She began her career in journalism as an intern at The Standard Group Plc, one of the major media organizations in Kenya, before being recruited as a correspondent, writing human interest features for the weekly newspapers. As a reporter and later senior writer, Lillian wrote stories on governance, science and environment, health and education, traveling extensively across the country to tell impactful human interest stories.

Lillian has held senior management roles as County News Editor overseeing six regional bureaus in daily news gathering, and concurrently deputizing the National News Editor to run the news desk. In March 2021, she was appointed Continuity Editor in The Standard’s Converged Newsroom – the first of its kind in East and Central Africa. Under this role, she was responsible for ensuring the newsroom operated optimally at all times through daily planning, development and monitoring of content across print, broadcast and online platforms. Over the years, she has worked closely with teams of reporters to develop award-winning stories that have earned recognition both locally and abroad. Her biggest pride and joy has been in coaching and mentoring the next generation of journalists in the newsroom. She am among founder members of the Standard Group Women’s Network aimed at ensuring representation, inclusion and equity of women in leadership at the Organization. She am also a member of the Kenya Editors Guild, a forum that brings together senior media managers to network and engage on industry matters.

In the course of my career she has won various prestigious awards such as CNN Multichoice Africa Journalist of the Year Award (health category). She have also been a finalist in various fellowships including the Knight Science Journalism fellowship program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a nominee to the Hurbert Humphrey Fellowship and David Astor award.
