Tecámac, Mexico

Hermelinda Chávez sweeps in front of her home on Sonora Street in Tecámac, about 35 kilometers (22 miles) from Mexico City. To mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, residents organized a day to clean the streets in the neighborhood.

Mexico has reported 84,627 confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, as of May 30, according to the Johns Hopkins University & Medicine Coronavirus Resource Center. A total of 9,415 people have died.

Erdenebulgan, Arkhangai Province, Mongolia

Workers from Gurvan Tamir, a construction company, build a new school in Erdenebulgan, a district in Mongolia’s Arkhangai province. Schools in Mongolia are closed until September due to the spread of the coronavirus. Meanwhile, construction on the new Human Complex School No. 2 is in full swing. The school will have space for 960 students.

Mongolia was one of the first countries to take preemptive measures to slow the progression of the coronavirus by closing its borders, schools and other public institutions in late January. As of May 30, Mongolia has 179 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Komanda, Democratic Republic of Congo

Franklin Ghisha, 3, entertains himself while troops from the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission, or MONUSCO, wash their hands at a barrier in Komanda, a village in DRC’s Ituri province. Local officials set up the hand-washing station to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Anyone who wants to pass through the barrier is required to wash their hands and have their temperature taken.

As of May 30, DRC has 2,966 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 69 deaths.

Murun, Khuvsgul Province, Mongolia

Narangerel Orsoo walks door to door in Murun, the administrative center of Mongolia’s Khuvsgul province, handing out calcium hypochlorite, a cleaning agent, to residents, including 16-year-old Ulziikhishig Batbaatar. Nearly 70% of residents in this area use pit latrines. To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the Murun governor’s office distributed the cleaning chemicals to households in the district.

An official from the governor’s office said that video instructions on how to disinfect pit latrines were issued on social media in advance.
