Mexico City, Mexico

In Pelota P'urhépecha, or Uárhukua Ch'anákua in the P'urhépecha language, two teams of two or more players hit a ball to opposite sides of the playing field with wooden sticks to score points. One variant of the game involves the ball being set on fire.

Firdous Ahmed skis in Babareshi, a forest area of Indian-administered Kashmir. “I have been skiing since childhood and wait desperately for the snowfall season,” says Ahmed. “It’s always fun to ski from the ranges of Affarwat,” a nearby mountain peak.

Siddhartha Gautam, 8, enjoys a ride called 3 in 1 at the Kathmandu Fun Parkin Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu, Nepal. Siddhartha says he likes to ride 3 in 1 at least two times whenever he visits the amusement park, because it makes him feel as if he’s flying in a real airplane.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

In this game, the ball is kicked over the net, and one team tries to get the ball to bounce on the other team’s side of the court.

Srinagar, Indian-administered Kashmir

Children play under the autumn shade of the chinar trees at Naseem Bagh, a garden on the University of Kashmir campus in Srinagar, a major city in Indian-administered Kashmir. In 1635, the ruler of the Mughal Empire planted 1,200 chinar saplings at Naseem Bagh, whose name means Garden of Breeze.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Karen Ameal Vera practices parkour at the Parque Rivadavia in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Vera belongs to Facebook and WhatsApp groups whose members meet around the city every Wednesday to practice and teach one another parkour, an urban sport that blends gymnastics and stunts. Vera says, “It becomes a way of life. Now, I look at everything through parkour; I confront life’s obstacles in a different way.”

At first, freestyle football was a hobby for the pair, but now they make videos and perform at events and shows.

Theo Bakoko, 20, who attends a technical secondary school, plays a game called “cadra” in Kisangani, a city in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The two-player game costs 200 Congolese francs (12 cents) to play and is popular among students during their summer vacation.

Carrefour, Haiti

Melissa Eximond, 17, a blue belt, trains under instructor Tales Joseph during a karate class at the Association d'art martial Shotokan karate do d'haiti, a martial arts school in Carrefour, a suburb of Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
