Michelle Goldchain

Engagement Producer

Michelle Goldchain is the Engagement Producer at Global Press Journal. She joined the organization in 2019 after having worked as Web Producer at Education Week and formerly Editor of Vox Media's Curbed DC. Her local reporting has been featured in Washington City Paper, Washingtonian Magazine, Washington Business Journal, DCist, The DC Line, Greater Greater Washington, Technical.ly DC, Eater DC, Tagg Magazine and Whurk Magazine.

In April 2019, her first book, “D.C. by Metro: A History & Guide,” was published by Arcadia Publishing as a historical guide to the most notable sites near every Metro station in the D.C. area. She launched an absurdist comedy YouTube show, called Artsplained, in March 2018 in order to inspire others to learn to love the art world. In September 2017, she also founded a newsletter and podcast, called Capital Women, focused on how female-identifying people in the nation's capital are succeeding and empowering each other.

Along the way, Michelle has worked as a freelance photographer for the Alexandria, Virginia government’s Office of the Arts and D.C.-based On Tap Magazine. Her photography has been seen in the East City Art news publication and the 2017 EMULSION group art exhibition in Washington, D.C., while her other artworks have been showcased in California's Museum of International Propaganda, New York's Rochester Contemporary Art Center and Grady Alexis Gallery and Washington, D.C.'s Rhizome Gallery, Fondo Del Sol Visual Arts Center and Pepco Edison Place Gallery.

Michelle has been a guest on WAMU's Kojo Nnamdi Show, SiriusXM's Jennifer Hammond Show and the "You, Me, Them, Everybody" podcast. She has also been featured in The Washington Post. She has a Bachelor’s degree from Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.

Whenever able, Michelle is passionate about drawing illustrations in Adobe Photoshop and studying cooking and baking in order to discover dishes she’s totally unfamiliar with. She lives in Alexandria, Virginia with her two cats, the rascally Cooper and the plump Harley.
