Matt joined Global Press Journal in 2021 as a graphics editor. He’s worked for the Lincoln Journal Star, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, and Omaha World-Herald.
Matt earned a BFA from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, with a focus on painting. He is an avid cinephile and earned the equivalent of a film studies minor while at Lincoln.
During his career, Matt has received 11 silver medals and one gold medal from the Society for News Design. He placed first in the Great Plains Journalism awards for 2013, 2015 to 2020. Matt has illustrated two children’s books, with a third in the works. His dream is to make comic books, and is working on two series and a graphic novel he hopes to have published in the future.
Matt resides in the untamed wilds of Northeast Omaha (Historic Florence, Nebraska, to be precise). He spends most free time outdoors. Matt loves watching films, reading comics, spending time with friends, and having a really good Bloody Mary while listening to some live music.
