Wairimu joined GPI in Kenya in 2011. She currently serves as the Regional Editor for Africa. Since she was young, listening and telling stories fascinated her, and later inspired her to study journalism. At GPI she has “had the privilege of telling local stories – issues affecting [her] community, its struggles and triumphs, traditions and culture – to a global audience.” While previously limited to reporting to a local audience, GPI has provided an opportunity to share stories from the place she knows best, as a member of the Kenyan community. Wairimu appreciates that “GPI seems to appreciate and has thus entrusted [her] with the noble responsibility of covering news events and features about Kenya.
